Antimicrobial impregnated PICC for neonates

The only antimicrobial impregnated 1Fr PICC to provide care for our youngest and most vulnerable patients.

What is premistar?

Designed for parenteral nutrition and the administration of medicine for preterm babies. Including Star Technology that combines both Rifampicin and Miconazale, this antimicrobial PICC will help to fight against catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs).

The technology behind premistar

Combining Rifampicin and Miconazole to create protection against a broad spectrum of microorganisms such as Staphylococci, Enterobacterial and Candia. Extruded PUR tubes are placed into a solution made of the two anti-infective substances. By thermal activation the combination of Rifampicin and Miconazole is chemically incorporated in the structure of the catheter. The combination suppresses microbial growth enabling the device to stay in the body for up to 30 days as well as dramatically reducing the risks of CRBSIs.

Did you know…

…more than one million neonatal deaths every year are attributed to infection? In Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) the reported [infection] incidence is 7-24.5% and up to 40% in newborns with birth weight less than 1000g or <28 weeks gestation.
